Shade Warrior (Ambassador) Program & Website Grant Proposal

some clarity, transparency, and accountability on why this grant was denied and who denied it would be greatly appreciated and would create a good culture moving forward. starting to get a closed garden vibe from the core team where only people that are making money are able to make more money.

I agree w/ you 100% a path forward is needed. It’s a strong way of creating product users, keeping them involved and having a line of communication w/ early product adopters.

Community send more ideas for how to move forward  any ideas anewbiz?

If this is something the community truly wants then the best path forward (imo) is voting through the community dao. Other community members and myself have been helping build the community dao but I don’t see this option available until Q1 2023

@JeremyS can someone from Shade give details here from their side? I think it’s proper for the community to see the transparency after going through this public process. It would be a complete example for future forum grant proposals.

How are grants like this voted on? I would think all votes would be public with some sort of statement as to the decision. But I guess that is just my opinion :man_shrugging:

your guess is as good as mine

shade community rise up and throw off the yoke of the oppressive and exploitive dev team!

The team has an allocation for grants. I don’t think there is any obligation for them to show public voting or their rationale.

However, I do think that in the spirit of strengthening the community, the rationale being provided would always be beneficial.

Ah I was thinking this was from the Community Fund, which I would think should be public?

Anyways, possible issue I see with the proposal is that $250/month for the web host seems pretty expensive. Im assuming this is for a EC2 instance? Without knowing the exact traffic the site will handle, etc, I would think something smaller would probably get the job done for a fraction of the price. Even Amazon LIghtsail might be better alternative or Heroku, etc. Many different choices.

I apologize for the late reply, I’ve been a bit busy. But i will definitely write something up for the sake of conversation and getting the community thinking forward.
There are many ways things can be done, and what’s really cool about these things, is we can tweak them over time. Just getting the ball rolling can be the most important step. That unfortunately can be the most difficult step too.

Let me put my thoughts on paper. Then come back to it.
I also need to weigh on on the silk topic

Hello everyone. Very happy to see all the thoughts and development in this post.

Posting on here to give an update on how we view this grant and want to move forward with this, as well as some insight on what we are trying to do.

I myself am a very big fan of this grant and what is it trying to accomplish, as well as a huge fan of the people proposing. Over the past weeks I and others have spoken with them and the team at length, both about this, other grants, and how we want to do grants moving forward.

For now we will not be funding this proposal. The rational is below.

  • The Secret Network is doing alot of work revamping their agents program, and I think alot of lessons can be made from looking at how they are doing that in terms of processes, incentives, and communication. Its something many of us already help lead or participate in and so we can focus during these next months on finding what works, and changing what doesn’t.
  • Shade has multiple products coming out soon, but as of right now it seems to be an inopportune time as so much of the Shade community seems to be waiting for the first of these to released, and to interact with it. I think in the not so distant future we will revisit this idea and get it started to help foster community structure, communication, and interactions.

Based on the above we will not be starting this program, though we do have major interest in it for the future. I have spoken to Melch regularly myself and with others, and appreciate all the feedback you in this forum have given. I apologize for the delay on posting this, and will try to do better to interact with the public on what the team’s thoughts are on grants like this.

I also want to say we are critically looking how we want to go about the grants process, so that it is best for the community and Shade as a whole, by having detailed steps, and communication lanes with those parties involved in the grant. Its something I know myself and others take very seriously that we critically look at how we communicate, and support these initiatives, as we don’t want to make unnecessary assumptions.

We always appreciate feedback and I am happy to answer if anyone has questions.

I appreciate the response and clarity.

To be honest the main reason i did not make an opinion yet, is that I had no idea what was actually the hold up. I did not know for sure if it is bear market anxiety, money, or something else. So i didn’t know how to address concerns.

I can understand wanting to see how things work with the scrt agency restructure for the lessons learned. It’s logical.

I am personally spending time in trying to help and structure that process, and think that good things will come if it, and some of that value can be useful here as well.

I am a big fan of organic marketing and believe simple shill methods are more damaging than helpful. The new structure of the agency is addressing those things in a pretty practical way and hopefully we can take some pointers from that, and customize it to the shade community.

Overall, i hope to see community and project empowering each other as part of a hollistic approach. Some form of incentivization is going to help people to be able to put real time into making great content. But any incentivization should be based on quality. Structured in a way that simole spam submissions are disincentivized.

I think agency is doing that in a pretty practical way.

All that said, i would love to have some quality content ready to be put out with the launches that are coming.

Yes, most of the things we want are pending launch and coming soon. But how freat would it be to launch, and also have content ready to engage and answer all the questions?

I would even be open to help make some content in my extra time (something becoming more and more rare) if we had a project board needs to choose from. Just to help as community.

Can we get a list content asks for on a volunteer basis for now? Not incentivised, but equipped with materials for the content. (IE feedback, graphics, docs, etc.) Later we can move into incentivization?

We could use such a thing to engage communuty, get the word out, help onboard, and also have some refference material from contributors who can make quality content, once a program is launched.
